Post Production - Editing

Throughout the Post Production stage we had one main objective as a group. This was to make our product as interesting, teasing, and persuasive as possible. In order to do this we had to get the editing as good as possible, make the sound as effective as possible and ensure that all the mistakes we came across, were quickly solved, sufficiently and as a team.

Because I was the director in the film, giving me a large role to play in the pre-production stage, i was given the role of helping the editor, and other smaller side roles. Before we got to the post production stage, and started to complete our editing, we gave every person in the group roles that they would play in the post production stage, to ensure that we were all organised and knew exactly what was needed of each of us.

The first and most vital part of the post production stage is the editing, which Tom was given the role to be in charge of. We sat down as a group and watched all of the film, and then with Tom, we edited the piece. Because we had the use of flash backs in our product, we wanted to make it obvious that they were separate to the corridor scene, and so we decided to make them black and white. We also decided as a group that it would be a good idea to put a strobe in towards the end of the piece, as this would create a feeling of tension, and fear for the audience.

After we had done all of the effects, such as the strobe, and made all of the cuts integrate smoothly, we focused on the sound. Because we wanted to create tension throughout the product, we wanted to add an eerie soundtrack, which we did. Luckily we found one which seemed to slide straight into the already edited piece perfectly, and so we added this to the piece, and made it just quiet enough to be able to hear the dialogue over the top. We also made sure that we got the music from a non-copyright site, incompetech.com, which allowed us to use the music without having to gain permission from the maker of the piece.

The last vital part to the post production process was the feedback, which we made absolutely sure we completed with enough time to slightly change the product to suit the audience better. We did this by completing a questionnaire, and making people watch our piece, and then fill it out. From the results, we then generalised our results, and noticed the general trends in the answers, and from these, adapted our piece suitably.
